Changes to Physics Requirements for UBC Engineering

Due to recent changes in the transfer of Columbia’s Physics courses to UBC, students who plan to apply for UBC Applied Sciences (Engineering) are now advised to take Physics 130 and Physics 120. The combination of Physics 110 & 120 will not satisfy requirements for Engineering at UBC starting in 2017. Note that either Physics 110 or Physics 130 can serve as a prerequisite for Phys 120.

If you have passed Phys 110 before Fall 2016, then you may take either 120 or 130 in Fall and the other in Winter, as both will be on the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 timetables. If you have not taken Phys 110, then you should take 130 in Fall and 120 in Winter.

Students who complete Phys 110 (before Fall 2016), 120, & 130 will not be required to take Phys 118.

Please note that the combination of Phys 110 & 120 still satisfies SFU’s Engineering requirements, and the combination of Phys 110 & 130 still satisfies UVIC’s Engineering requirements.

If you need further advice, or have any concerns please contact counselling, or Tara Todoruk.
