This time of year the weather sucks here in Vancouver but here are some cheap and fun things to do with your friends during those rainy days. Get out and explore the city and shake off that Winter rust!!!

1) Ice-Skating at Robson Square, Vancouver

This activity is free if you have your own skates and $3 if you need to borrow some. Skate away and have some fun for next to nothing! Imagine your in the Winter Olympics (please don’t try any flips though!!!) Take the skytrain to Granville Station and walk 5 minutes to enjoy the ice!

2) Shopping at Metrotown, Burnaby

With over 400 stores and food options Metropolis at Metrotown has something for everyone. There is also a huge Cineplex Cinema here showing all the latest movies. To get here please jump off the skytrain at Metrotown Station.

3) Visit An Awesome Museum (for FREE)

All of Vancouver’s museums are FREE to visit on Tuesdays! The Museum of Vancouver and the Space Museum are easy to get to by taking a water taxi from just next to Science World, in-front of Creekside Recreation Centre. If you really enjoy the museum leave a small donation behind.

4) Play as an Athlete Richmond Olympic Experience

Fancy finding out what it would be like to be an Olympian? Why not go see what it takes at the Richmond Olympic Experience. Chances to shoot hockey books, ride virtual bobsleds and so on. This is a fun place for everyone to visit: http://richmondoval.ca/therox/

Awesome Club Leaders Needed!

Would you like to lead a club next semester?

Club leaders receive official certificates of appreciation from the college and hours can be used and seen as volunteering hours. Being a leader of a club looks excellent on a resume as it shows future employers and universities that you are dedicated, organized and willing to use your time for the benefit of others.

There are several clubs still looking for leaders including:

  • Billiards/Pool
  • Bowling
  • Dragonboat
  • E-Sports/Gaming
  • Food with Friends
  • Music & Singing
  • Swimming

If you are interested to lead a club or would like to start your own club please email Alex at arowe@columbiacollege.ca and explain why you would be an awesome club leader.

Have a great weekend and good luck with your exams!

Clean Club Volunteers Needed!

clean club 2

Hello everyone!

I hope the new semester is treating you well. I am writing to invite you to join (or rejoin) the Columbia College Clean Club! Our goal is to keep our campus beautiful by removing any garbage we find in the neighbourhood. We meet once a week, and spend about 45 minutes each meeting picking up litter in the area around the college. It’s a good way to meet fellow students and contribute to your campus at the same time! Students who participate in the minimum required number of meetings will also receive a certificate at the end of the semester.

The first meeting will be on Thursday, September 14th, at 3:00 pm. We will meet in room 542 at first, and then head outside from there. I hope to see many of you there!

If you are interested in joining the club but are unable to make it at this time, please send me an email to let me know! I will try to find a time that works well for everyone.
