The 3R’s of Sustainable Environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The excessive use of various types of natural resources is spoiling our healthy environment day by day. The author, Bob Faulhaber in his article “The Three R’s of the Environment” says that “we are quickly running out of space. It’s time to learn the three R’s of the environment: reduce, reuse, recycle.” Therefore, I think that we can save our environment by practicing 3R’s, because these are good methods to maintain a green and sustainable environment.

To begin with, reducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to help the environment. In the article “3R’s of Sustainable Environment”, Bob Faulhaber says that reduce is the most impactful method to save our environment, because if we can reduce, then, there will be less need to spend money and energy on recycle. Moreover, he tells that we should not buy the things that we don’t need. Also, Logan Amy in her article “The Business of Zero Waste” says that many of business companies in Vancouver adopted a zero waste policy. There is also a zero waste market which is Canada’s first package-free grocery store. Although, the people use the garbage sorting method which is a more environment friendly approach to maintain sustainability.

On the other hand, we should try to find ways to use things again, instead of throwing them away. Reuse does not require re-manufacturing and processing. So, one of the best way to minimize garbage is to reuse plastic bags over and over. Mui Michael, in her article “City Mulls Coffee Cup, Plastic Bag Ban”, claims that the plastic bags are flying through the air and caught in birds’ gullets. Also, plastic bags are causing death in wild life. Reuse will minimize the trash in the environment. There are many other products which can be reuse like plastics and Styrofoam products. So, we should reuse them instead of throwing away.

Apart from this, many of the things we use every day, like paper bags, cans and milk cartons, are made out of materials that can be recycled. In the article “Ikea Eyes Canadian Furniture Recycling” the author says that “Sjostrand said Ikea already has recycling programs for plastics, paper, light bulbs and mattresses in place in Canada, and was also the first retailer in country to phase out the sale of incandescent light bulbs in favor of energy saving LED bulbs.” Ikea also has a take-back program for the recycling of old furniture. Therefore, it has more planet-friendly approaches to save the environment. So, we should use Ikea programs to recycle products.

To conclude, the 3R’s are heart of the green and sustainable environment. All of us, whether a public organization, private company or individual in our homes need to manage resources more friendly and we should not buy the products that comes in wasteful packaging. We should focus on 3R’s to save our sinking planet.
